far far away?

i was 13 when my best friend from primary school had to go far far away. her family migrated to melbourne, australia. we made plans to have her kidnapped from the airport... cried buckets... made promises to snail mail every week!! i was devastated coz it seems like i'll never ever see her again!

then she came back for a visit!! one "kampung" went to the airport to greet her!! :) we went out and painted the town red... as red as a bunch of 17 year olds can paint it! we ate till cendol was oozing out of our nostrils... we chatted and tried our best to compress 4 years into 4 days... and when she had to leave... the whole "kampung" went to send her off in the airport...

i guess those were the days when somebody goes away and it feels like it'll be forever. now? we are working!! and earning some money!!! yay!!! and it does not seem so impossible to visit each other. with internet, we are still able to communicate... so, i suppose we won't cry buckets when friends leave. we'll still miss them. as a matter of fact, we are less likely to take them for granted knowing they'll be leaving. but i suppose we know we'll meet up somehow... one day... hopefully not to many moons away...

and we'll snail mail!! it's always nice to receive snail mails :)

The beauty about great friends is that you can pick up where you left off and it's effortless and seamless. I was extremely lucky to have you, PC, as my International Darling (yes some may suspect we are lovers) ...we snail mailed, we emailed and we saw each other once every few years... and lo and behold, we've been great friends for nearly 23 years.

Agree - snail mails to each other are great...especially when you read them years later! It's like keeping a diary that you only share with a few treasured people.
