world is smaller....

i dun think the world is flat... but i do think it's getting smaller. long long time ago, families probably travel by themselves... and are somehow self sufficient...

then these families met, and figured it's probably a good idea to travel together... for safety.

then they decided that they should stop travelling and settle down in one place. start planting stuff, one cow and a few chickens should do the trick.

then came barter.... then money.... then phone lines... then internet...

and now... all the villages in the world have become one. the world shrunk. each country is like a villager. some have declared themselves the head. each one scrambling to specialise in something that would make them useful in some way to the village.

each country is like a person... coz it is made up of people. so, naturally, the villagers would still like to be self sufficient to a certain extent... they will still plant their own padi... own their own parang...trust their fellow neighbours?? not so easily...

what are we gonna do for a living? looks like cyberjaya is made to be share-services centre... we are gonna be backend!!??? sigh... shall we not re-direct? is there nothing more exciting and rewarding that we can do??

ok... now i'm going to read the world is flat... let's see what thomas said...

my speech...

is so good... i also have to put it up!! :)

hello! and good evening ladies & gentlemen.. first and foremost, i'll like to thank selina for the honour of being her bridesmaid and for the opportunity to speak... (she knows me pretty well, and yet have decided to take the risk, making the request all the more special and all the more touching)... so, thank you.

i'm the official matchmaker for yean and selina and i am very proud of it! (by the way, where is my chu kiok chou?!)

for those who don't know me, my name is poh chin. i have known yean since he was 8. and to me, he has always been the sweetest guy on earth. at one point in time, we were hanging out together for quite a bit... and we were discussing really "chim" stuff like what kind of woman he would want as his partner.

armed with that information, i went into PSA where i met my dahling - selina. she was seated in the cubicle next to ming. she had me at "harlo!"

when i saw her, i saw the word "MATCH" blinking above her head... she smiled! and then, there were little bright lights going round the work "MATCH"!! i believed that she was all yean had ever dreamt of~

so, all i did was i messaged yean via MSN "guess wat? i found your dream girl"...

then, there was no turning back.

he saw, he liked, he went for it.

how did he do it?

it started with a lunch in cyberjaya. there, they were formally introduced. although yean had already done groundwork and knew who she was, what she does, how she looked like and that she goes to fitness first. selina had no idea!

yean liked selina so much, he went for steps class in fitness first. those who know yean, they would never have imagined him doing dancy steps or participating in a steps class!!!!! suprise, suprise... he excelled in it! then he showered her with mp3s, stored in nifty looking thumb drives.

selina came to me one day and asked "why is your friend always giving me mp3s? i have these songs already!"

he was doing a lot of "training" in cyberjaya. we had starbucks delivered to our desks, mash potatoes delivered when braces were tightened, magnum ice cream, famous amos cookies... they say sweet stuff makes you happy... yep, we were happy to see yean.... always!

and isn't ironic that yean, who before meeting selina, never allowed anybody to take his photo.. was suddenly appearing in photos snapped by the ever trigger happy selina... and he was smiling in those photos!!!

isn't it amazing?? the power of love???.....

we wondered if he would succeed... i mean selina is smart, gorgeous, always hungry and yet body beautiful and extremely popular with everybody in the office. her smile, braces and all, truly brightens up your day. what are yean's chances???!

for those who knew yean well, they would know it all boils down to ROI. looking at the probability, it would not have been a strategic move to invest! he was eligible, but it was stiff competition out there. but for once, he threw ROI out the window, and did what his heart told him to do.

we knew he had succeeded when he was online on MSN and YM and there were no more messages coming in enquiring on selina and when she logs off, he disappears too!

out group of friends were very happy for him when selina and him got together. reason being, he simply deserves it! after all that effort! and they make a wonderfully cute couple. both very much go getters, both religiously believes in ROI, both love eating!

so, with such a gem in hand, yean would be very willing to let go of his very colourful past. now, can i invite yean on stage? (yean comes up)

(music to start)
yean, you've had your share of fun. and tonight, there is a need for closure! it's time to say farewell.... to .... tara patrick!!!.... debbie dallas!!! monica beluci!!!...sukaporn!!!... (his best of buddies to come up to stage, dressed in beautiful dresses and do lap dances and get group hug!)

yean, say goodbye to them.. and we look forward to your 25th anniversary, birth of your 13th child and many many more happy memories.

cherish selina always, and selina, don't worry... these guys won't let him bully you.

here's a toast to yean and selina! enjoy the journey...

groom's speech....

was so super touching, have to put it up (copyright!)

A very good evening to everyone here today, datuk-datuk, datin, beloved relatives, dear friends and neighbours.

Looking round the room today, its wonderful to see so many of our close friends and family celebrating our marriage. It means a lot to Selina and I that all of you could be here to share this day with us.

A special thank you to all of those who have travelled some distance to be here today. It is quite a humbling experience to realise that you have friends and family who care so much for you.

Not only do we have loved ones who have travelled from Kedah Penang, Ipoh, Air Tawar, Johor and Singapore, we are blessed with the presence of friends and family from as far as the UK, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. Selina and I thank you for being here today.

I did have a great speech worked out for you today, but as I am now married, my wife has told me what to say instead.

First of all, I would like to thank Jamie, Selina's brother, for his kind words and wishes. Selina and I thank you for making the trip here, all the way from the UK, to help
us on our special day.

We wish Ying Ley, baby John and Tzu Tzu were here however we are delighted that Ying Ley is expecting and we anxiously await the arrival of the latest addition to your family.

We thank you for your generous gift to us which will come in handy when Selina and I purchase our future home. It is indeed an honor to have you as my brother in law.

A special thanks to Shireen, Selina's sister, Edwin and Cameron for traveling from New Zealand to share our joy on this day. Your help and presence here this last weeks has
indeed made it all easier. You are the sister I never had!

To my mother in law, Daisy, who has worked tirelessly for today working on everything from invites to food arrangements,

and my late father in law, John Ling, a great man I've come to know thru wonderful family photos, animated stories and more importantly thru Selina, Jamie and Shireen.

I wish I had a chance to meet you in person, however I know you are looking down upon us from heaven.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart:

Firstly for bringing such a wonderful daughter into this world, I'm still at awe every time I lay eyes on Selina and my heart skips a beat at the idea of us spending a lifetime together as man and wife.

Thank you for taking me into your loving family and making me feel so welcome. I hope I can be everything you want from a dutiful and loving son-in-law.

Thank you for all your support both financially and emotionally in preparation for this big day. I am indeed proud and humbled to call you "Me".

I want to especially thank my brother, Andrew, for all the love and support he has unselfishly given to me all my life.

From the bottom of my heart, I value the fact that he has fought many battles as the eldest son in my family so that door and roads are already open when I go thru them. I wish him and Yvonne happiness and joy in anticipation of him being a father in the very near future.

Selina and I thank you for all your help as the master coordinator of events today. You are the best brother anyone could wish for.

I would like to thank my parents whom have always loved and supported me through every stage of my life which, believe me, is no easy task.

They deserve a medal of endurance for all the patience they have shown me in guiding me on my journey from a boy to a man. I thank you for the many sacrifices you have made to instill in me, the values that will carry me forward in life.

Both Selina and I are forever grateful for all the support both financially and emotionally, for without you, there will be no event here tonight. I can only hope I live up to your expectations as a son. Ma & Pa, thank you.

To my wife Selina, I want you to know how lucky I feel today. You know everything about me and love me just the same. I have my faults, yet you still agreed to marry me.

We have been planning this wedding for a year now, although it seems like a lifetime. Well, I say "we", really Selina did all the work. My baby, I look forward to spending our lives together and I love you with all my heart.

To the bridesmaid, Poh Chin, my childhood friend. How can I ever thank you, for without you, I would have never have met Selina.

To my best man, Yih Keat, whom I've known for 18 years, you have always been and will continue to be a great friend. To Kent Ee, my buddy of 22 years, whom could not be here today, Selina and I thank you for your well wishes.

To all my buddies, thank you for all the good times and wish me luck in my latest adventure!

Special thanks to Andrew and Josie for agreeing to be emcees for tonight. I think everyone will agree that they have done one heck of a job! Andrew and Josie, Thank you!

Special thanks to all the bridesmaids for all their efforts in making this day an enjoyable one. You guys looked gorgeous today.

Carmen, Yarly, Eileen, Lai fong, Sofia,
Jenny, Min Foong, Sze Lynn and Angel. Selina and I thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts.

To all the Hing Tais! Cy Inn, Elwin, Terence, Danny, Jason Ching and Jason Tan, really appreciate the help in getting my bride!

To all our friends, relatives and colleagues who have helped us in planning and made special arrangements in coming here tonight, Selina and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts, this night would not be complete without your presence here! Cheers!

guess who?

photographers for selina's big day... SCH (the lucky one amongst the beauties) and lynn.... :)

clubbing

age is catching up fast...

we use to want to go to clubs where the "cool" people are... that would be where the older people hang out. "jump" was for 21 years and above. and we were denied entry!

now... we want to go to clubs where the "kids" don't hang out....

i guess that makes us the "cool" people??!!

"i wanna get married!"

it's funny how when my girlfriends say "i wanna just get married, give birth and stay at home", it's always when they are frustrated with work.

and when my guy friends say "i wanna get married" is when they have everything else under control (work, finances, etc)...

i suppose it's got something to do with the fairy tales we grew up reading... the princesses are always rescued by the princes......

changes in "wat do i wan?" posting

yay!!! i have just recently discovered one more thing that i wan... the fella must want to make me happy coz he would like to see me happy... tot that's a by default kinda thing. but apparently... i was mistaken. therefore, shall have to state it as a criteria...

best of buddies..

today i went for dinner with a friend... and my friend's friends from primary school... and i discovered something!!! they also tease each other's father's name! AND grandfather's name!!! (ever noticed how the guys never ever messed with their mother's names??!!) they also have certain words that will start them giggling, then rolling on the floor... words that would mean nothing to another person!

it's startling how similar they are to my group of friends from primary school... you'll get the same warm fuzzy feel when with this group of people... these friends whom have known each other for donkey years, tease each other mercilessly (unless there is a new friend in the midst - they will try very hard to minimise the teasing - but will tease nevertheless), all in good faith! and somehow, despite all the teasing... you just know that they know they would be able to count on each other... always!

one of my primary school friend (yean) told me, "i'm lucky to have buddies like them"... and i told him, "i think we are all lucky to have each other"!

i think credit will have to be given to yuen - my bestest international darling - who went far far away when she was 13. every time you come back, we gather... and i think that played a major role in keeping the group together. also thanks to yean for all the chinese new year gambling sessions. not to mention the many bbq sessions. and of course, football/ futsal which kept the guys together...

everybody should have friends from primary school... :)

p.s : daniel included as part of group... though not really from primary school... he is soooo farni...

then saturday nite...

super tired... but spirits lifted as the evening progressed... all the luis were very leng... and so were all the chais...

saturday morning...

saturday morning was "chip san liung" and tea ceremony... guys wore diapers and drank yucky stuff... talk about brotherhood... and yean finally gets his bride... chee muis looked gorgeous (as usual)... everybody happy~

what makes a man manly??!

now that we've pretty much defined "lui yan mei"... i have a question...

what is "lam yan mei"? what makes a man a MAN? :)

1. posture (must not stand/ walk like sotong)
2. confident
3. go getter

tummy?? (ar... not really... very man meh?????)

4. JC would say gentlemenly in a very natural manner! (like born to be gentlemen... must not be conscious effort and must not be fake wannabe kinda gentlemen.... muahahahahahaa)
5. funny - a must (but should not be too clowny kinda funny, not all the time anyways... you wanna laugh with him, not at him)
6. mature...can kua... but i think must have a bit of kid in him, otherwise no fun

7. able to make decisions... good or not, very subjective wor... but at least know what he wants
8.

wat else ar??

chicken rice theory

assumptions :
1) it's a standard plate of chicken rice
2) you are not too hungry nor too full

3) you are normal and like chicken more than rice

if you have a plate of chicken rice... and towards the end of the meal you have more chicken than rice on your plate, then you are likely to be one who is able to save... and vice versa. if you have just enough chicken to go with the rice, then you are probably the "ngam ngam" kind of person - the kind who would be waiting eagerly for the next month's pay cause you probably have RM5 left in your savings.

noted that my accoutant friends typically have more chicken left towards the end of the meal... and my sales friends typically have more rice towards the end of the meal... my nurse friend typically have only timuns left over towards the end of the meal...

lui yan mei...

my next year's resolution : to attain "lui yan mei". direct translation for "lui yan mei" would be women's scent! not literally of course... i do intend to take my bath daily... now, how do you define "lui yan mei"?

it's grace, it's class, it's feminine, it's gentle, it's soft, it's what makes you take a second look, it's all about being a woman, it's womanliness...

it does not necessarily mean long hair, it does not mean being dependent, it does not mean dousing oneself with perfume, it does not mean wearing dresses...

some people have it when they grow older... others seem to be born with it... some never ever attain it...

karina lau (hong kong actress) now has it. i think angelina jolie has it. most people seem to get it after giving birth...

i have no idea how i am going to achieve it. i suppose i'll be looking out for role models?? do let me know if you know what i'm talking about... and if you know of somebody i can take as role model... and if you have any idea how i can attain it...

home alone...

i love being home alone... having the whole place to myself... not doing anything in particular, and not having to explain to anybody why i am so happy not doing anything in particular...

i think one tends to be more responsible when one is home alone... you wash up coz u know nobody's going to pick up after you. you feed your pets coz they'll starve otherwise. you check the locks three....four times to ensure no buglars would have a chance at your digital SLR.

one can also strut around half naked/ stark naked!! liberating!~

day 7 : very very spotty... actually, more like patchy, and a little bit itchy

day 8 : spotty and itchy

day 9 : hopefully better.....

timing is everything...

you might have wondered before, why is he marrying A and B.. when B is nicer, prettier and overally better?? why did she go into that industry which is totally unrelated to what she did before?? why did she go out with him?? why did they get the business??

i think it's all a matter of timing... A was there when he was ready. the offer came when she wanted to leave. he asked when she felt like it. they were there when they were needed. it's all a matter of being at the right place, at the right time... yes?
