sleepless in bei jing!

on 14 June, de, may and i, packed our bags, and with lots of enthusiam and high hopes, flew to bei jing for a long awaited holiday. Because we don't speak mandarin well and after listening to the many horror stories about being conned in china, etc... we decided a tour group is probably our best bet. and so, we naively signed up with Summit Holidays which had the tagline "Beyond travel expectations"...

little did we know, we would be still be conned, but by the tour!!

we stayed near brothels in rooms which are either small/ smells funny/ had no aircond/ had no windows, brought to shop in jade/crystals/pearls/diamonds/ tea shops where they probably earn commission, rushed through all the historical places (so that we can spend more time at the above mentioned shops), ate cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, tomatoes and omellete e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y!!!, guide spoke mandarin most of the time though we opted for english speaking tour because majority of the tour group can speak mandarin (god knows why they opted for english speaking tour... does this mean they should neglect the minority??? did we not pay the same amount of money????)...

so, be warned... tours with Summit Holidays ?? think twice... three times... alot alot of times... before committing. we paid RM2,178. Not a cheap tour for off peak season (summer time)... might as well pay another RM1k and join a more reputable tour company. better yet, learn mandarin and go on your own.

how oh how... how do we seek recourse... is this what the government had in mind when they started MATTA fair?? is this value for money???
