no nice pix...
was looking through the photos i took in barcelona... looking for some nice ones to upload to me blog.... NONE! i couldn't find one which i thought was good. i suppose it's the competitive side of me. after having looked at hobbes' pix... i thought the ones i took were definitely not uploadable!! super kiasu right...
but i suppose we all can't help comparing ourselves with another person all the time. and THAT is the cause of our misery. i suppose i should be able to live quite happily in kuala kangsar, in a small house, working as a barrista in the town's kopitiam, earning enough to feed myself and perhaps fund the occassional trip to KL to buy naf nafs :)
...provided, i don't run into anybody from my school or anybody who's of the same age, doing better than myself! (which i'm sure there are truckloads out there... thank goodness i don't know them!)
we do tend to compare ourselves with people we know, who started of at the same time as ourselves.... and also with people we don't know who are of the same age or younger. sigh. so the secret of happiness : don't compare. but can it be done?

why?
your boss calls you into his room. tells you you have been promoted. you come out of the room. what do you do next?
you've just baked a tray of the most fantastic pre-mixed cookies ever! what do you do next?
your tortoises have finally laid eggs!! what would you do when you find out?
your cactus died due to overdose of tlc.... what do you do?
i suppose most of us will call somebody and share the news. imagine if there is nobody to share the news with... what does that feel like? i suppose it makes the event less meaningful... more empty.
so i suppose our "existence" depends very much on whether or not we are surrounded by people who matters to us, ... or rather people to whom we matter (is that a grammatical crime?? well, too bad! :) )... telling or sharing news or events with people who care is what makes those news or events special.
i suppose that is why so many people are afraid of being lonely. it makes life a little bit more empty... but sometimes, you just need to look around a little bit more, and you'll find somebody who matters and who thinks you matter. unfortunately, very often, those are the ones we take for granted.

a or b?
we'll never ever ever know if a decision made is right or wrong... guess we should just go with what feels right at that very moment.
somebody said that we would know... after some time, in hindsight, whether a decision is right or wrong... but would we really? for instance, when whether we should take up a particular job offer... after 6 months, we are stressed out, working like a dog, for an increase in salary that does not commensurate with the additional number of wrinkles acquired... then taking up the job offer was a wrong decision made. but what if you got fed up, quit your job, set up your own business and make millions subsequently?? then would it still be a mistake taking up that job offer?
we would only be able to know whether a decision was right or wrong if we can clone ourselves at every juncture where a decision is made and this is done until all the clones are dead... we see which clone is the happiest?!! and then there is the issue of measuring happiness. by amount of wealth acquired by each clone??
so.... no, we'll never know which was the right or wrong decision ever... so, just do it! make the decision, stick to it, make the best of it... and believe that it's the best decision made. and i guess it will be!

boots
i think every little girl dream of having a pair of white knee length boots... but i didn't get one... until about two years back. it's not quite knee length, not very white either. but i love it! :) unfortuntely, if i'm to wear it in malaysia, my legs would protest and so would my friends... have to go somewhere during autumn and wear them...

the smarter species
there are certain species made to conquer. they have many many not so smart ones, and very very few smart ones to lead. the smart ones laid the foundation by telling the population to go forth and multiply. and multiply they did. capacity of some are 4 times the norm! when there are sufficient numbers to conquer the basic running of the mill, they produce middle management. how? by sending some of the not so smart species for further training... at the expense of smart but apathetic species. they monitor their progress, hold meetings and networking sessions on a daily basis. sometimes, even 5 times a day! the smart (that's what they think) species have characteristics of sand. sticking together only when there is water. this species is found everywhere. why? because they run and hide everytime there are difficulties. never daring to stay and fight because they believe non from the species would stand by them. proud that they are able to survive everywhere. but is that really something to be proud of?
so which species is really the smarter one? i suppose in a big picture kinda way, it must be the one that was made to conquer.
